Why not just find another ISP?

FWIW: AOL Canada, the Canadian @Home partners, and most of the mom-and-pop
ISPs I've used also don't allow their subscribers to use anyone's else SMTP
servers.(You can use any POP server you want, though, to receive mail.)

In fact, this is pretty much standard operating procedure for most ISPs
which want to control access to their SMTP servers to prevent them from
being used as launching pads for DDoS attacks and spam. I think most
Internet users would consider this a reasonable policy.

Sympatico's servers, in fact, were left wide open in the Ottawa area 18
months ago and were used for all sorts of nefarious purposes, which ended up
degrading or destrying the service for all legitimate users. (Some
subscribers who contacted us were without e-mail service for two weeks or
more.)

If you want all outgoing mail to be untraceable -- use someone's Web mail
from a public library or other public terminal, buy a premium service like
Freedom from ZKS or use an anonymizing service.

There's lots of issues that cypherpunks and cybercitizens ought to raise
awareness and fight for but is the right to use any SMTP server really that
important?
