Without going into too much detail, SSL support has been a difficult proposition for me for two primary reasons: 1: The "official" SSL implementation from RSADSI Inc costs US$100,000 per annum to license, and that's so far beyond the budget of a service package like Pegasus Mail that it's laughable. 2: The free alternative, OpenSSL, has practically no documentation of any kind, and I am not an experienced cryptographer. What I am hoping is that I can find someone more technically able than I in this specific area to help me by doing the following: a) Produce a compiled, working DLL or static linkable library version of the most recent version of OpenSSL for me. b) Put together a few pages of basic documentation on how to establish and use SSL connections, and how best to handle issues associated with certificates and other SSL-related matters. In many ways, point (b) is much more important than point (a), since I'm sure I could probably get OpenSSL compiling eventually - but coming to terms with using it is quite another matter. Both Pegasus Mail and Mercury use the same quite well-abstracted TCP/IP layer, so it should be relatively easy to hook OpenSSL into that, once I have a working DLL and some information on how to use it. I thought I would ask here before going to the OpenSSL user community itself, for two reasons: 1: I'm more likely to know and trust someone who frequents this list, and trust is a considerable issue when dealing with encryption technology. 2: People on this list are more likely to have an understanding of the issues associated with implementing SSL in the Pegasus Mail and Mercury environments. If anyone here has significant experience with OpenSSL and is willing to help me out here, I'd really appreciate hearing from you.
