Yes: Your original loop works fine -- except if I set DEFAULT_PREALLOC_PAGES
= 0.  I don't personally need that case... I'd set DEFAULT_PREALLOC_PAGES =
1 just now during testing, to ensure page requests doubled nicely, and
considered it.
