Hi.
How are you building openssl? (buildsystem, patches).
It sounds a lot like you're missing patch
0001-cryptodev-Fix-issue-with-signature-generation.patch from
http://rt.openssl.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=2770&user=guest&pass=guest
which fixes similar ugly effects with openssh.
