I am proud to announce the first development release of Caliban, a preliminary implementation of the Instant Messaging protocol that I have been developing at Carnegie Mellon this summer. The big feature of the protocol is that it primarily uses OpenPGP to provide a high level of security. v0.1 is most certainly a development release and as such may not be entirely usable or stable. Caliban is GPL and is currently only running on Linux though ports to other Unix-like OSs should be pretty easy.
