Ross by a good match, I mean that for any valid input file
to the encryption engine. You could have a valid input file
that was compressed to it.

In short not only can any file of the type you wish be
compressed and encrypted. If you use the wrong key for
decryption. Then it will decrypt and then deompress to a
possible valid file. In fact if you compress and then the
key tested you get the sane encrypted file. Very few compression
encryption systems allow this.

What is the size of the key in the above context? What is
the rationale that a block should be large enough to
contain more plaintext entropy than the key? Thanks.

You're missing the point. If I know the message is ascii I can throw it
away if there are any non ASCII chars in it...You have about 0-127 for ASCII
space (that is 1/2 of all bytes are valid randomly). That means a 100 byte
message will randomly be all ascii (1/2)^100 or 2^-100 of the time. This
means if I find an all ascii message I may have the correct key.

Simple.

If "certain countries" is intended to slight the US, I just note that
entirely similar patent laws are in force in Europe. Dynamic

You missed the point again and again. I would use my h2com on general
files. When send a a message I tend to use my conditional huffman
compressor. If one use only the "A-Z" letters in the condtion file
thats all you get when you decompress anything. All wrong keys lead to
files of those characters only. ALso you failed to comment on Matts
compression which makes deflate look like a piece of shit for general
files.

If the encryption product was designed to produce so called
fully random output yet it compresses for some product with many
"random" test cases. Then I would not trust the encryption.
Othen than that it depends on many things. You can encrypt
a file and then expand it to a printable characer set. The
expanded file can be compresses but will most like be as secure
as the origninal encrypted file.
