November 19, 2001 I.B.M. Joins Kroll to Provide a Package of Security Services .B.M. (news/quote) plans to announce today that its Global Services arm will jointly market a package of security services with Kroll (news/quote), a New York company that specializes in the protection of corporate assets. Rusine Mitchell-Sinclair, the new general manager of I.B.M.'s two- year-old security practice, said that I.B.M. was also refocusing on security planning and support for large companies in specific sectors, like airlines and financial services. It will continue to market a range of products that provide security to particular computer systems or corporate departments. "Security has become the top issue for our customers," said Ms. Mitchell-Sinclair, a 49-year-old executive who until recently was general manager of I.B.M.'s Web-host business. I.B.M. said that it was also setting up a new corporate office called Global Security Solutions to provide guidance to customers and I.B.M. business units on government regulations and social trends that would affect security and new technology, like biometrics. The new office will also try to coordinate I.B.M. research, hardware and software developments and services that relate to security. I.B.M. named Elizabeth Primrose- Smith, 54, general manager of the new office. Ms. Primrose-Smith previously oversaw I.B.M.'s sponsorship of the Olympic Games and other major sports events.
