Confusion about how much you can encrypt with a given keypair using rsa oaep

I have generated a 1024bit rsa keypair.  When I use it in an rsa oaep 
encrypto/decryptor the most i can encrypt
at one time is 86 bytes.  This doesn't seem right.  Can someone shed some 
light on this or point me to some
documentation that will enlighten me?  does the pkcs15 rsa 
encryptor/decryptor allow larger messages?
