I would rather not. My philosophy is that removing compilers warnings
is not worth the cost of adding #ifdef's. #ifdef's are bad because
they make the code harder to test.

Yes, it can be just a counter. I'm not sure what you mean by the last 
question, since the time vector is of a fixed size, it must wrap if 
you use a counter for it.
