Wei suggested that you need a non-VMWare machine (ie. real computer).

AFAIK, unless it takes specific steps to detect this,
the operating system doesn't "know" that it isn't running on a
real computer, so running on VMWare should be identical (except for
device driver differences) to running on a real computer.

In a Turing machine sense, VMWare is a real computer - there's no
difference between straight hardware and hardware
emulated in software.

I think you'll be wasting your time moving to real hardware.

If anyone can contradict what I've said above, please post with a
detailed explanation.
