Indeed it should.
When I tried this option openssl outputs a file that is not Base64 encoded. If I get more desperate, say Wednesday or Thursday, I will have to see if I can make that work.
I'm just worried about having to deviate to much from the example code for Crypto++ as I'm pretty shaky as to what is going on and I don't have the time to work it out; being not so smart it would probably take me ages as well :-(

It should be possible to work with DER encoded keys and certificates using the options "-outform DER" to output in DER format and "-inform DER" to read in DER formatted data.
Cheers, Luigi.
