Chris, thanks for the patch. I'll fix the warnings in the next release.

Diego, I installed Ubuntu 8.10 and GCC 4.3.2 into a virtual machine, and I 
got a validation error in Crypto++ after doing a straight make. Turning off 
GCC optimization (remove -O2 in GNUmakefile) fixed the problem, so it looks 
like some change in the GCC optimizer between 4.1.1 and 4.3.2 broke 
Crypto++. I'll try to track down what's happening, and in the mean time you 
can try disabling compiler optimization.
