Also be aware of some linking problems with MacPorts compilers. See, for example, http://trac.macports.org/ticket/50853 and http://trac.macports.org/ticket/51754. The 50853 bug is marked as fixed, but I am experiencing the same problems in the 51754 bug (the 51754 is marked as a dup of 50853).
