Nope, it was a fresh checkout.  Failed on some vcc_?? file.  So I ran "Update", it ran for a while and failed again on the same? file.  Tried to run update, said it was messed up, so I ran clean, then ran Update again and it finished.
 
This has happened to me everytime I do a checkout from SVN of crystal.  I've never had it happen on any of the other very large projects we use it for (ie. our institutional website with tens of thousands of pages and images) so I assumed that either the SVN repos is messed up, or there's something between me and sourceforge timing out the connection.

Well you said that you spent time fixing the SVN checkout due to errors... So I assumed it wasn't a fresh checkout.
