The "status" is that it's still possible to submit an application for that; to my knowledge noone has any plans to do something similar in the very near future, there shouldn't be any risk that this SoC idea suddenly gets obsolete :) If you submit your application for the project I'll be happy to mentor. However I can't promise you're actually getting the project - this also depends on the number and quality of other applications and the opinion of the other mentors on projects what to take. So my advice would be: go ahead and submit a project application. I currently don't have much to add to the short description found on http://trac.crystalspace3d.org/trac/CS/wiki/SoC%20Ideas - not sure what details you want to know. If the description isn't clear enough or you have some more specific questions write a mail perhaps to the developer's mailing list. (Public discussion is somewhat more in the spirit of open source development than communicating solely between individuals.) -f.r.
