Yesterday I mailed about the new Open Game project with the Blender
and Crystal Space projects. More information about this can be found

Ton Roosendaal from Blender will come to the Crystal Space conference
to talk about this project. You have only a few days left to register
for this.

For Crystal Space this project is an enourmous opportunity. I see
several big advantages for us in this. First the goals of this project
are pretty high. We don't want *just* another free game. We want a
free game that can visually compete with commercial quality games. To
that end we'll have to improve on Crystal Space to allow for more
modern 3D features. One important aspect in that plan is the new
render manager that we are planning. Another big advantage of this
project will be a 'documentation' or 'tutorial' aspect. The entire
process of making this game will be documented (on a DVD) and made
available later. All sources and art files will be available. This
will be a huge documentation process and hopefully it will help many
people who want to start a new project with Crystal Space. Also this
is of course a big publicity boost for Crystal Space.

Apricot (code name for Open Game project) only starts late this year
but I think we should not wait for that to start improving Crystal
Space and CEL. I really think we should make haste now in designing
the new render manager as I feel this is going to be important for
this. At the conference we have set aside some time to discuss the new
render manager.

So let's all make this a wonderful project. Together I think we can
make a fantastic game.

Greetings,
