In data/config/gldrivers.xml there is a rule "Disable VBO for GNU/Linux ATI drivers". The comment above states that the problem was on 64-bit drivers and the check was added nearly two years ago. First, the rule should not be applied to 32-bit drivers because the problem was not identified there. Second, it's likely that the 64-bit ATI drivers have been fixed by now.
So I am calling for all people with ATI cards on Linux (running 32-bit or 64-bit) to test by removing that rule and see if they don't actually get improved performance. If the 64-bit driver still has the problems, then the rule should check that the driver is 64-bit before disabling VBO for all users running 32-bit machines. I have tested with VBO enabled on 32-bit Linux for Radeon 9600 and 9700 and it gives nearly double the FPS in certain areas of the castle (e.g. the left room with the windows and light rays). Hopefully we can remove this, so people with ATI on Linux (running 32-bit, at least) can get good performance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
