To streamline CS development and make future changes easier I think that with the future 2.0 release (now 1.9) it is time to get rid of the software renderer. 1.4 would then be the last official release containing the software renderer.
How bad would this be for people? I guess that most people who still need the software renderer don't really need the new features provided in 1.9 (like new render manager). But maybe I'm wrong?
