Hi everyone!

My name is Thomas Liu and I'm a graduating senior at Worcester Polytechnic
Institute. I'm a double major in Computer Science and Game Design, and I've
taken some graphics courses along with some technical game design courses,
so I've got some experience working with other game engines, computer
graphics in general, and also some experience writing shaders in GLSL. I've
spent my last two summers at Red Hat so I've got ample experience with the
open source work flow.

I'm looking to submit an application for SoC to work on crystal space, and
wanted to bounce a few ideas and thoughts off the mailinglist before writing
my final proposal.

In particular, the proposed idea of implementing some advanced rendering
techniques interests me. Thus, I plan to propose a SoC project that centers
around implementing one (or more?) of these. I'm interested in starting
with SSAO, and then maybe moving on to others if time allows.

This is my first time doing SoC, and so I'm not really too sure how things
work. The part I'm a little unsure of is on creating a timeline for working
on something like this. I don't know how long implementing something like
SSAO would take, though I'm pretty sure getting it to work won't be nearly
as difficult as getting it to work efficiently. So the question comes down
to how to propose a timeline when I think it'd be hard for me to actually
get a good feel of how long it will take until I start working on it. Are
SoC projects concrete after the app or are they sort of fluid? If I did
finish implementing SSAO in a satisfactory manner would I be able to work on
another effect if there's still time left in the summer?

Thanks for any info you can provide!

-Thomas
