We have worked on tools similar to the ones of the game Portal through the
GSOCs 2011 and 2012 on physics.

To summarize, the base tools are there but there would still be quite a
lot of work to be made in order to have everything working properly.

There are at first problems within CS with portals that use space warping,
and there are several rendering or engine issues about that, eg with
http://trac.crystalspace3d.org/trac/CS/ticket/970 and
http://trac.crystalspace3d.org/trac/CS/ticket/950.

Secondly, the management of the collisions and physical behavior around a
portal is not easy to handle. We are working on it but haven't still
manage to reach a good solution, although this is one of the most
important milestones expected for this GSOC.

Those would be the main issues to be fixed in order to have the basic
tools for a remake of the game Portal. There would also still be the
gravity gun that would be needed and that might be a bit tricky to setup
and parametrize correctly.
