As everybody's aware, SBCL's compiler is quite a bit slower than,
say, CMU's compiler. The compiled code is pretty zippy, but the time
it takes to compile is a real downer.
I've seen some discussion on this in the past, but nothing's really
come of it. I don't know if that's because people are insufficiently
motivated, or because nobody has any idea how to help it. If it's the
first, I'd like to provide some motivation. The company I work for
(ITA software) would be willing to pay someone to fix this.
At this point, nothing is final, I'm mainly trying to test the
waters, see if there is anybody who'd be interested in doing this
kind of thing.
