Hello folks,

Canterbury Software is looking at starting a regular series of "Getting to
Know Our Sector" meetings to enourage everyone to gain a greater
understanding of what people are doing, build networks, develop
collaborations and practice presentations.

Once a month we'd get together and have around 4 people make a five-minute
presentation each profiling their company, its services and/or products.
Many of us need to be practiced at this for when we make our "elevator"
pitches to big clients or venture capitalists, or presentations at
overseas shows. Better to test it out now than when you're on the spot,
right?!

Everyone would be encouraged to ask further questions about your company
(useful both as a promotion for you and as an indication of what things
attract attention). And there would be the chance for robust, honest
feedback -- it really helps to find out whether the message you *think*
you are delivering is the one the audience receives!

The run-throughs done prior to last year's Anzatech show were very useful
in sharpening up presentations, and it meant that we each learned about
other company skills -- means we know who is doing what, who we can
recommend or pass work/inquiries onto, identify possible collaborative
partners etc. At the show, people ended up saying to propsective leads
things like "We don't do that, but I can introduce you to who does...".

This..er.. Elevator Cafe will be a regular CSI activity on the first
Friday of every month at the Canterbury Innovation Incubator. They'll run
from 5-6, so you get the chance for further informal feedback at the Hi-
Tech BBQ which will follow. (And we're grateful to the CII and Christine
for the support, thanks guys :-)

So, mark on your calendar: Elevator Cafe, Friday May 2, at 5pm, CII (200
Armagh St) not to mention June 6, July 4, August 1 etc.

If you'd like to take advantage of this opportunity and test out your
presentation skills, let us know. (And don't be surprised if a CSI team
member contacts you to be volunteered :-)

Cheers,
Vicki
