I was the programmer at Foodstuffs (ChCh) Ltd that wrote the programs that
produced the first bar-coded shelf labels for New World supermarkets in
the Canty. region . The label information came from the product file in
our IBM System/34 'database' and labels were printed on a Printronix line-
printer.

 ... let's see, that was about 1986 !
