There was this posting from the NZ Software Assn newsletter 30 Sept 2002 on the NZSA and ITANZ Remuneration Survey: Over forty companies participated in this survey which produced an excellent result, more than trebling the total number of entries from the previous survey and thus giving far greater depth of data. Apart from the usefulness of the survey for reviewing staff salaries, the billing rate information was also very interesting. The variation in average hourly billing rates and ranges by job type is surprisingly high. The averages vary from a low of $98.33 to a high of $165.89 and the ranges from $50.00 to $240.00. A gender gap of 12% is revealed but this is more a consequence of the spread in job type. There does not appear to be any variation in billing rates by gender within specific job types. The same is possibly not true in respect to pay rates but this has not been analysed fully yet. However, the differential between the sexes looks to be far less than the 16% rate quoted by Statistics NZ recently. Summarised results will be made available to members of NZSA and ITANZ on request.
