Calling on CSI forum women -- we're looking for women in IT who would
consider being interviewed as part of a Massey University research
project.

So any women in IT reading this, please put your hands up (see contact
details below). If forum members know of any women working in IT who might
be interested, please forward this to them. It should produce some
interesting and useful data.

The researchers, Barbara Crump, Keri Logan and Andrea McIlroy work in
the College of Business, Massey University, Wellington Campus . They have
been awarded some funding from the New Horizons for Women Trust to
research women in the IT industry. International studies have identified
gendered patterns in computing work and differences in styles of working
between men and women in the IT industry. The Massey researchers aim to
investigate the New Zealand situation by interviewing women working in the
industry. The objectives are to:

* identify the nature and extent of the masculine-gendered culture in the
computing workplace and whether it is perceived as discouraging or
blocking womenintheir IT careers

* identify the existence (and impact of) employment practices affecting
women in IT such as training opportunities, promotion and rewards,
mentoring, family-friendly measures, eg, child care provision, etc.

* ascertain the division of labour within particular spheres of work to
which men and women are allocated in the IT workforce

* compare results of regional differences (if any)

* identify attitudinal differences between men and women regarding IT work

They're looking for women working in IT who could spare 30 to 60 minutes
to talk about their IT employment experience. Send details of age,
position held, qualifications and length of time in the IT industry .
They'll be coming to Christchurch to interview study participants.
Interviews will be confidential and no individual will be identifiable in
the publication of the results.
