JOBS FOR MIGRANTS: NewJobZ.co.nz, a Christchurch website that aims
to find jobs for prospective migrants and thus enable them to gain
residency, went live last week. The site, developed by CSI stalwart
Alchemy Group, is a new service offered by Christchurch-based
recruiting and job placement specialists Stu Macann and Associates.
Director Keith Lightfoot, an IT veteran, says a client log-in
feature on NewJobZ enables would-be migrants to follow progress
with job-hunting being carried out on their behalf. It also
contains news about NZ migration issues and a two-minute video
outlining the service.

WALKING THE TALK: Watch for lots of bright marketing ideas from the
big contingent of CSI members who tapped into the expertise of
Wellington advertising guru Warwick McCormack at a workshop
sponsored by Enterprise Training, and run by Canterbury Development
Corporation. McCormack quickly dispelled any complacency and had
participants Walking the Talk towards marketing greatness.

GO FOR GRANTS: High-tech businesses in need of cash to help them
grow or take on new markets should consider applying for assistance
under the Enterprise Development Grants scheme, says Canterbury
Development Corporations Graham Allely. He says that after a bit
of a hiatus the newly formed NZ Trade and Enterprise is inviting
grant applications by entrepreneurs, start-ups, existing businesses
and groups of businesses. The Enterprise Development Fund grants
can cover 50% of the costs of obtaining specialist advice or
assistance, up to a maximum of $20,000 (GST inclusive), on a 50:50
reimbursement basis. Eligible costs include mentoring, advanced
management or technology-based training, employing specific
external advice and international market development activity.
Allely ([EMAIL PROTECTED] phone 379 5575) is happy to offer
advice and help with preparing applications. Scheme details at the

ASIA GATEWAY: Do you need hotdesking or an operations base in Asia?
A Kuala Lumpur based businessperson has offered office space, admin
support and assistance with business development to any NZ
technology company seeking an Asian base of operations. KL is
pitching itself as one of the high-tech hubs of Asia and makes a
good, low cost springboard into the region. The offer is made on
the basis that the host company would ultimately become a minority
stakeholder in any Malaysian subsidiary company that was formed to
support Asian operations and develop the market. The businessman
concerned has an ongoing business relationship with Malaysia's
largest mobile phone network carrier. Contact CSI facilitator

COMPUTER CRIMES: New laws carrying sentences of up to seven years
jail for computer crime have come into force, making it an offence
to access a computer for dishonest purposes, damage or interfere
with a computer system, access a computer without authorisation or
make, sell, distribute or possess software to commit a crime. In
some instances the Crimes Amendment Act clarifies existing laws to
make sure they cover computer crimes like hacking and sending
pornography by computer. The Act also introduces the offence of
taking, obtaining or copying trade secrets.

JADES AUST DEAL: Christchurch software developer Jade's
Co-ordinated Care (JCC) integrated case management software will be
used to co-ordinate medical, preventive, nursing, allied health,
counselling and social welfare services for more than 10,000
Aboriginal people in New South Wales. It is Jades third contract
with the Australian Federal Government and the six-figure deal is
expected to expand in scope and be worth millions to the company.
The trial is part of Australia's government-funded national
HealthConnect initiative, designed to provide information to aid
research and planning objectives for the entire country. Six trials
have been funded, with one for each state except Tasmania.

WOOSH MOVES: Woosh Wireless, formerly Walker Wireless, is close to
finalising an interconnect deal with Telecom which will let Woosh
customers make phone calls to people on other telco networks using
its broadband wireless modems. Trials of the Internet telephony
service are expected to begin next month. Woosh launched its
broadband wireless service in Auckland last month and the company
expects to achieve 70 per cent coverage of Christchurch and
Wellington by mid-2004 or the third quarter. - InfoTech
