DIARY DATES: Following the hugely successful Walking the Talk
marketing workshop, Canterbury Software Inc has scheduled two
further events designed to help members lift their sales
performance. Diary these now, and watch for further details:

2-5pm; and Do Your Own Market Research, Wednesday December 3,

BCL IN FRAY: State-owned enterprise BCL is set to outpace broadband
wireless rival Woosh by offering subscribers two-way broadband
internet at speeds of one megabit per second by the end of the
year. The company will launch its wholesale broadband service on
October 31 from 28 base stations across rural and provincial New
Zealand, with the capability to immediately reach at least 90,000
households and businesses. - InfoTech

INNOVATION OPTIMISM: New Zealand businesses may be significantly
under reporting their investment in innovation and R&D, according
to a poll by the organisers of the InnovationVoyage New Product
Development Summit held in Auckland last week. The Employers &
Manufacturers Association (Northern) polled the 400 plus delegates.
Seventy percent of responses said they treat R&D for accounting
purposes the same as any other business cost with just 30 percent
treating it separately. - Scoop

BOOTCAMPS SET SCENE: A series of Boot Camp Seminars across
Australia and New Zealand gave almost 50 companies and 150
executives the chance to prepare for ANZA Technology Network
Technology Showcase Conference in Silicon Valley on November 9-11.
The sessions covered an overview of the conference, cultural and
operational differences between Australasia and the US, and most
of the session was spent helping the companies fine tune their 30
second pitches and their five-minute presentations.

AXE POISED: A wave of IT redundancies is predicted to hit Australia
in the next few years with vendor-based jobs moving to offshore
outsourcing markets on a "substantial" scale. A senior Gartner
researcher says tightening budgets and increasing performance
pressures on corporate IT departments are increasingly forcing many
Australian businesses to send their work to countries such as
India. - Computerworld Australia
