SEIZING THE E-BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY
By DANIEL JOHNSON

It never ceases to amaze me just how many organisations fail to
harness the new and exciting business technologies that have
emerged over the past five years. This article explores two factors
driving this, clarifies the meaning of e-business, and discusses
the opportunities that exist for SMEs looking to get more serious
about business.

*NEWSBYTES*

WOOSH WAY: Woosh, formerly Walker Wireless, has said it expects to
launch its wireless broadband Internet service in Christchurch
during the first quarter of next year. Meanwhile, it is being
tipped as the likely winner of the Project Probe tender to provide
government-subsidised broadband Internet services to schools in
Otago.

ITANZ NEW BLOOD: David Irving, chief executive of New Zealand-owned
ICT firm Synergy International, has been elected for a two-year
term as president of the Information Technology Association of New
Zealand (ITANZ) replacing IBM NZ managing director Nick Lambert.
In his last report, Lambert voiced concern at the continued
reduction in R&D investment by multi-national ICT companies in the
domestic market

IE HOLES FOUND: Microsoft says it is investigating a report of
seven new security holes in its Internet Explorer browser
discovered by a Chinese researcher. Two holes are thought to be
critical and could allow an attacker to run a program that would
delete files, crash the machine or take control of it from a remote
location.

WAIKATO PARK: The Waikato Innovation Park
(http://www.innovationwaikato.co.nz)will open for business this
month after nearly 15 years of haggling over its development. The
park will focus on agri-business and biotechnology, but has a
strong contingent of ICT companies ready to move in. The centre
will use income from its commercial clients to fund its incubator
programme. Park funders include Hamilton City Council, the Wel
Energy Trust and Trade and Enterprise NZ.

in Christchurch? CSI provides free listings on its website for job
hunters and staff seekers and has joined with Christchurch-based

of mouth using extended social networks. Go to the Jobs page to
