NZ -- AN OUTSOURCING HAVEN

CSI members and the broader IT community were invited to a
presentation of the Outsource2New Zealand initiative, which aims to
present a united quality "branding" for New Zealand services and
product development, starting in the UK.

The aim is *not* to compete with the likes of India on pricing, but
to emphasise the utility of working with New Zealand companies who
can offer a common language, compatible culture, good skills and
education and efficeint work cycles.

It's early days yet, but could be promising. More information will
eventually be made available via the outsource2newzealand.com
Website, but they are currently focusing on branding New Zealand as a
quality outsourcing destination at next month's Gartner conference in
London.

Christchurch companies are well used to out-sourcing -- it's easier
in some respects to provide services to Australian and US
organisations than it is to ones based in Wellington or Auckland!
We'll keep an eye on this initiative and keep you informed.

ICT UBER-CLUSTER

Over the past few months the Canterbury Software team, and others,
have put a lot of work into developing a plan to accelerate the
growth of the Canterbury ICT sector.

Were identified three key areas where we can work to improve the
sector:

* develop a dedicated and specialised research facility (which will
be especially useful for the electronics sector but will also be
relevant for Canterbury Software members)

* improve the skills of business managers

* ensure that there will be an ICT workforce skilled enough and large
enough to meet anticipated increased demand

More on this at the CSI Website:
