DATACOL GRADUATES FROM CANTERBURY INNOVATION INCUBATOR

Canterbury Innovation Incubator's first tenant has successfully
emerged from a two-and-a-half year business development programme
with an impressive track record and plans to break into the three
foreign markets. Michael Herman reports.

DataCol founder and managing director Grant Thomson arrived at the
Canterbury Innovation Incubator (Cii) in 2001 with a handful of
staff, a small team of meter-reading contractors and a big dream.
Thirty months later, with the help of Stephen Hampson, Cii's chief
executive, and a team of high-powered city businesspeople acting as
mentors, Thomson's data management company has become the incubator's
first success, featuring twice in the Deloittes Fast50 competition
and with a firm grip on almost half of the New Zealand meter reading
market.

information, is more extensive than the regular software updates but
falls short of a version overhaul. Microsoft is working on a new
version of Windows, code-named Longhorn, which is expected to be
released in 2006.

July 12, 2004: IBM has unveiled a new range of business computers
that use the company's Power 5 microprocessor and technology that
allows each chip to run as many as 10 servers.
IBM's new eServer line allows customers to use fewer servers to
perform automation functions, which will appeal to customers who are
seeking to squeeze more performance and capacity from a smaller
number of computers, IBM said in a statement.
