GOVERNMENT FUNDING BOOST FOR ICT IN CANTERBURY

A project to ensure the sustainable supply of suitably experienced
and qualified ICT practitioners was launched earlier this week by
economic development minister Jim Anderton and information technology
minister Paul Swain. Michael Herman reports.

A comprehensive "end-to-end" solution developed locally in response
to the HiGrowth Project's $10 billion-a-year vision for the high-tech
sector has attracted praise and substantial funding from government.
Economic development minister Jim Anderton announced a $1.765 million
grant for the ICT in Canterbury project at Tait Electronics'
boardroom on Wednesday, describing the initiative as "groundbreaking"
and praising the close collaboration between participating town and
gown organisations.

JULY 20, 2004: Independent analysis prepared for the Commerce
Commission shows that regulating Mobile Termination Rates won't see
New Zealanders paying less to call a mobile from their fixed-line
phone and could harm competition among mobile operators, according to
Vodafone managing director, Tim Miles.
The analysis, conducted by Dr John Small of Covec Consultants, found
that unless regulation of Mobile Termination Rates (MTRs) is matched
by a drop in the prices fixed-line operators charge their customers,
