HIGH GROWTH IN ASIA/PACIFIC FOR PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE

IDC has predicted 11.5% compounded annual growth rate in the Asia/
Pacific (excluding Japan) system management software market, making
it worth almost $1 billion by 2008. Michael Herman reports.

A new report from IDC entitled Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) System
Management Software Forecast, 2004-2008 claims the drive among
companies to wrest better returns from their IT investments is making
performance management software the fastest growing functional market
in the system management software area, with a compounded annual
growth rate (CAGR) of 15.3% over the 5-year forecast period.
While claiming the largest slice of the Asia/Pacific systems
management software market, Australasia clocked up the regions
lowest CAGR.

*TECH NEWSBYTES*

August 30: Reuters reports that Orion Multisystems is looking to
create personal supercomputers that consume less electrical power
and which run Linux. The company says its custom-built workstations
will combine widely available computer chips with innovative
architecture to leapfrog existing computers and will appeal to
researchers, designers and other users of high-performance computers.
This strategy was used by Sun Microsystems 20 years ago to steal the
lead from IBM and Digital Equipment.

cheaper and smarter mobile phones by using Java. The companies plan
to make it easier to use Java programs across a wide variety of
mobile phones, increasing the range of programs such as games
available to users. It is uneconomic for operators and software
makers to write multiple versions of programs to run on all the
available handsets.
