Visit Christchurchs HIT Lab and make a right orc of yourself!

The Human Interface Technology Lab based at the University of
Canterbury is holding an Open House on September 16 from 4pm to 7pm.
Anyone interested in catching up on the Labs latest leading edge
technologies is welcome to attend. There is also a special session
for school children only, from 2pm to 4pm.

One of the major attractions will be a Lord of the Rings interactive
motion capture experience, where visitors move in front of a huge
screen and are recreated as a virtual orc, elf or hobbit. The display
shows how creatures like Gollum were created for The Lord of the
Rings.

The technology was developed with Wellington-based company Story! Inc
for use in the Te Papa Lord of the Rings exhibition currently showing
at the Boston Museum of Science. The exhibition is proving a real
hit, with more than 100,000 tickets sold so far.

Other projects that will be demonstrated at the Open House include:
Puredepth, TankWar, AR Urban Design, AR Astronomy, and FingARtips.
