Hello Janice,

Howard Nicholls has put a call on the Canterbury Software forum for
suggestions regarding possible topics for ini-depth software
conference topics/speakers, so here's my tuppence-worth for a couple
of topics which I think would be useful.

>From my own point of view, I very much appreciate speakers who
provide practical examples and case studies, rather than general
commentary (there's place for the latter, but it needs to be
grounded by the former :-).

GUI -- a technically oriented conference to look at best practice
concepts, resources to help develop good GUI, processes involved, how
to test, recommendations; could tie in the with the new design in
industry initiative

Taking Software to the Enterprise Market -- moving on up to push
sales and connections at the larger end of the market, what's
involved, what are the expectations of the enterprise market, how
does it differ from SME; this is an area in which a number of us are
involved, and one which has major implications for growth in NZ
software share in a global market

Publicising and Promoting Your Software -- What strategies work best?
What does a media consultant do for you? How much do they cost and
are they worth it? How do you get a good one? How do you prepare for
a media campaign? How do manage a media enquiry?

Can't help much with specific speaker suggestions, but I was talking
with US GUI guru Robin Kinkead earlier this year -- he'd be a great
one if you could get him to come here. He also suggested, for a local
GUI speaker Wellington-based Bob Mortimer. (I can supply contact info
with some bio details if you're interested.)

Publicity/Marketing -- I know that Ralph Wilson was thinking about an
Australasian tour here as he was in contact with us back in May 2002,
but it fell through; might be worth following up
(http://www.wilsonweb.com).

Hope that helps,
Vicki Hyde
