(Contact details at bottom) KEEN, ABLE AND WELL-PREPARED STUDENTS LOOKING FOR WORK EXPERIENCE PLACEMENTS FOR A FEW DAYS IN APRIL AND JULY The Christchurch College of Computing is a new central city secondary school focussing on preparing students, in their final year, for tertiary studies leading to a career in the IT industry. This college is a partnership of Christchurch secondary schools, managed by Burnside High School. Our students are confident and competent computer users. They are capable of problem solving and following complex instructions. Being senior high school students (17 and 18 year olds) preparing for tertiary study in ICT, they are keen to learn how IT is used in a work environment and would like to be involved. The students of the Christchurch College of Computing have work placement as part of their course in order that they can experience their future work environment first hand. If you were able to offer a work placement, you would be giving the students invaluable experience of the real world of the IT industry and a unique opportunity to explore different types of careers. Students are placed in work experience for three days of their school holidays: Monday 14 April Wednesday 16 April Monday 7 July Wednesday 9 July Each placement is with a different company. While in the work placements, the students will be assessed on personal and vocational qualities. What does the employer do? Indicate a willingness to accept a student. Supervises the student while they are at the work placement. Provides any special requirements of clothing, equipment and tools. Provides opportunities for the students to demonstrate vocational and personal skills. Completes a short Work Experience Assessment Form. For the employer, there is the privilege of working with the fresh keen minds of our young people and knowing that you have made a contribution to the future of these people and the IT industry as a whole. Also our website will contain the names of those companies who have supported the Christchurch College of Computing by offering work experience placements, giving companies wide publicity. N.B. The employer has no obligation to offer any future employment. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for giving consideration to providing work experience for a Christchurch College of Computing student. If you have any questions or are able to assist us with a work placement, please contact me.
