Sorry to keep self editing myself. It is still working, I just missed one thing I tested before in the fresh install.
Along with the registry hack you also have to place Steam.dll in the <installation directory>/bin in order for it to work. Hope this helps, although most of you already seem to know this (or other methods to get it working).
