I can still see the thread. Here is the body of the post if somebody else wants to post it.
Yesterday's update disabled random skin drops on community servers. This comes on the back of an update from months ago that disables being able to join off friends if friends are in community servers. This comes on the back of update after update that breaks how Sourcemod and Metamod communicate with the game (all those awesome features you love about community servers are only made possible with Sourcemod and Metamod). (Just a little history - CSGO developers used to communicate with the developers of Sourcemod and Metamod and let them know what kinds of updates they were about to push to give SM and MM a chance to update - this no longer happens.) Anybody who has played CS longer than CSGO knows that the community is the reason the games have flourished. This is the first CS game with official valve servers. Many of the features in this version of CS were remakes of very popular community mods. I have been running CS servers since 2007. I have run servers in 1.6, CZ, Source, and GO, as well as TF2, DoD:S, L4D, and others. I made my first CSGO server on day one of beta testing community servers. I enjoy the cohesive community that builds up around a well-run community server, a community of like-minded individuals who appreciate the type of atmosphere that can only be found in a community server. If you're reading this thread, you enjoy that, too. Before the ArmsDeal update, people would come into my server and ask a variety of questions - how do I set my rates for 128 tick? Do you have a deathmatch server? How can I donate? After the ArmsDeal update, people ask me one question - can I get drops on your server? I'm not mad about that - I buy a lot of stuff in steam because of the drops I get; I understand why people like drops. That's not the issue. The issue is that I have around 12 high traffic servers, regularly filled with people whose names I recognize instantly because of how frequently they are on, full of people who regularly tell me "Your server is the best X server I have ever played on" or "I'm so glad somebody made a server like Y finally", - (I say not to brag, but to underscore the fact that I am not a small time server owner hosting a server from my basement for me and my three friends) - and every single one of them has been empty since the update yesterday. The issue is that browsing my favorites list in the server browser, which used to have around 50 very popular community servers now has one (one) server with people in it. The issue is that the disability of drops on community has very quickly cleared them out. The issue is that on the back of everything else Valve has done to hurt the community server community, they have now disabled drops on community servers. Yes, there are people who don't care about skins, but they are unfortunately a small minority. The mere fact that you can sell your drops to buy other steam games makes the number of people who don't care about skins very low. Even if these people still want to play in community servers, they will probably find the numbers too low to try. I'm still not sure if this is a bug or a feature, because unfortunately, Valve developers have stopped replying on their mailing list dedicated to server operators. What was once a healthy dialog between server operators and valve developers has gone completely silent for months. What I am asking is for anybody who enjoys playing in community servers and doesn't want to see them gone, please make your voices heard. Reply with a statement of your love of community servers. Hopefully the thread will have enough attention that Valve will respond, since they seem more likely to respond on reddit than on their mailing list. I just want to know if this is a bug, and if it's not a bug, I want the community to beg valve to revert it.
