I actually edited the custom knives plugin back in august to provide the players with a normal knife instead. Never been banned, i doubt that is "detected".

What about if you hook chat instead of registering a command?

Yes, it seems they're just detecting common commands like sm_knife and banning them automatically.
I have a local srcds installation that I use to test stuff on, it had my own skins plugin on it, today I started it and instantly got banned. It couldn't have been reports because literally nobody except me has ever joined it.

Also, isn't a 22 year ban a little ridiculous? I mean, I understand that valve hates it if anyone dares mess with their precious virtual toy guns but come on.

I got legit banned btw, had an old !knife on a training server.
Seems to be a detection, since that server is password protected.
