This is literally just another Overwatch 2 situation. CS2 is a mandatory update to CSGO, it is not a new game that exists separately. Maybe they'll be kind enough to keep an old branch around so you can still play it on community servers, but matchmaking will definitely not be available and inventories probably won't either.
