I am curious to pick the brains of some of you CSS gurus out there about
something. Without going into too much detail, are there facets of CSS that
are coming down the pipe in the not so distant future that "excite" you?

I'm no guru, but I'm looking forward to being able to use background images as borders (CSS3). That sounds purely aesthetic, and so it is on one level, but on the other hand, the fact of the matter is that developers often resort to some sort of extra HTML in order to create the illusion of image borders. It's another step toward separation of structural markup from presentation.

Moreover, it will be a lot easier to use border images on fluid layouts (since at present probably the easiest way to create a border image is to do a repeat-y of an image which is the full width of the container, which can only be done with a fixed width).
