That did the trick - thanks! But yeah, the layout's pretty crappy in non-Firefox engines. Do you (or anyone else on css-d) have any suggestions as to cross-browser ways to accomplish what I'm doing?
PS: Incidentally (OT for css-d), using <a href="javascript:..."> is a no-no as users with JS disabled get nothing from the links ... better to use <a href="biopage.php?..." onclick="return getBio(...);"> where getBio returns false to prevent the link action occurring when JS is active. Better still would be to ditch the hard-wired actions altogether and use unobtrusive JS principles to dynamically attach the event handlers ;-)
I'll sheepishly admit to some cargo-cult programming on that one. I'll clean up those links to make them friendlier.
