Les,
To see the left and right borders in FF add this to #maincontent

display: table;

Using web developer on FF reveals a slight horizontal offset between the 
borders and the top and bottom images, so you may have to play with the 
padding/margins to get rid of the offset. This will probably screw up IE, 
but better to get it to work properly in FF then fix the IE float bug.
