Maybe the validator is being a little over zealous today? Nevertheless, 
plugging colors in is tedious; but is not necessarily a stupid exercise. For 
example: What if you have not specified a background-color on the body, and I 
have my machine set for background-color of yellow? And, fwiw, the default 
background color is not white on all OS. The ramifications of not establishing 
foreground/background color preferences can be disasterous...
