I'd like to right-align a "Read More" link on the same line as a left
aligned article date and author. This read more link will be placed in many
areas, so I'd prefer not to define a width. If possible, I don't want to use
a float either.

Is there a way that I can achieve this effect without a float or a width?

For example:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| Monday, September 5, 2005 | By Don Lips Read More |
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--- HTML ---
<p>Monday, September 5, 2005 | By <a href="#">Don Lips</a><span
class="readmore"><a href="#">Read More &raquo;</a></span></p>
--- CSS ---
.readmore {text-align:right;}
---
Thanks!

Matt
