Yes, the other thing is that it really expects a full 1024 width, which is not really given all the time (Mac users for example hardly ever have the browser fullscreen - I don't for starters). Another thing I would do differently: Use the carrets as background of the parent element of the links, then there will be a proper indentation when the link wraps over into another line. The caret is also a real french quotationmark, and should not be part of the text content - it is eye candy.
