It isn't the non-valid part that's making trouble-shooting impossible.
Validity is your problem, and if you can not do anything about it then
my best advice is to at least downgrade the DTD to HTML4 and mark it up
as such since the end-result can never be called XHTML of any flavor.

My problem is that something in that source-code prevents some
styles/stylesheets from being applied in some browsers.
All my browsers has that cart below content btw, but each in their own
version. I didn't experience any such problems with the previous version
of that page, so something more than where that cart is has changed -
regardless of where in the process it got changed.

Trouble-shooting CSS on top of source-code in the last example is simply
impossible at my end, so pardon me for not trying since you won't be
able to use anything I may come up with anyway. Somehow you must make
browsers agree on what to do with what comes out on line, before
applying any more CSS solutions to it. Sorry.
