Hi Ingo - thanks for that link, proof that it's possible to integrate the
idea. The problem persists though, because while your example shows a
single background image _under_ the <li>s, what I'm proposing is that IE
cope with a BG image being applied to _each_ li. In fact, you can see that
I am (successfully in FF etc) swapping a "+" and "-" .png for the
collapsed/expanded menu sections, and then using a different 'plain stencil'
for the actual link buttons.

I can't figure out how to transpose your model down from the <div> level to
the <li> and <a> level and have (potentially) multiple backgrounds. In the
mean time, I've simply hidden the PNG backgrounds entirely from IE via a
separate stylesheet (and added a different hover, non-transparent behaviour
there). But the site this menu is intended for is not about boxy boxes - I
need my curves, man!

Can anyone take a stab at solving this? Page is at HYPERLINK
"http://www.hoscote.com/test/menu.html"http://www.hoscote.com/test/menu.html
, with the "be nice to IE" version at HYPERLINK

Keeping everyting crossed (especially eyes...)
