I clicked on this link and was taken to this bit of information: "Floats, absolutely positioned elements, inline-blocks, table-cells, and elements with 'overflow' other than 'visible' establish new block formatting contexts." Not hard to find and not hard to understand. :-) The specs can be hard, but they are always worth a look when a question like this arises -- chances are, they've already answered your question and can give you the info you need far faster than waiting for responses from a list.
