I have read the W3C specs on list style type, but I have need for more and was
wondering if anyone has figured a way to kludge this. Our university policy
manual has a few sections that go ridiculously deep in numbering -- six or
seven levels. The list style types cover the first four levels but then it
breaks down.

Specifically, is there a way to create a list style type of
1)
2)
3)
and of
(a)
(b)
(c)

???
