i didn't do any in-depth testing, but perhaps this will help.

it doesn't sit up to the image in either ff or ie for me.  the reason
for this might be that you never close your header div.

when i increase my window to 1600x1200, the menu in ie is actually way
off to the left side.  the only place it sticks out on the right is in
800x600 afaict.

if you notice at the bottom of the page, there's a grey background
space underneath your footer, which might be why the page has black
space to the right.  validating your code might fix this.
